The Foundation provides college scholarships to assist worthy students. Recipients are recognized each year at the Senior Awards Ceremony at Conway High School. The deadline to apply is April 15th, annually. Conway High School Guidance Department will collect the applications.
Jennifer Timbes Leadership Scholarship - $1,000
The Jennifer Timbes Leadership Scholarship is awarded annually to a senior who exhibits outstanding leadership qualities, who is involved in community service, and who displays qualities of high moral principles. The applicant must be a member of the National Honor Society and must be active in a religious organization of his/her choice. An essay on leadership and an interview is required for finalists. Qualified candidates will be invited to interview with a selection committee comprised of family members of Jennifer Timbes, members of the CHS faculty, and members of the community.
Lee Cates Legacy Scholarship - $1,000
The Lee Cates Legacy scholarship is awarded annually to a senior who exhibits outstanding service and leadership qualities, who is involved in community and school service, and who displays qualities of high moral principles. The applicant must be a member of the National Honor Society and must be active in a religious organization of his/her choice. This scholarship exists to recognize Conway High school seniors who exemplify the characteristics of scholarship, leadership, school and community service and character. The scholarship is given in memory of Mr. Lee Cates, a 2006 honor graduate of Conway High School. Qualified candidates will be invited to interview with a selection committee comprised of family members and/or friends of Lee Cates, members of the Conway High School faculty, and members of the community.
Sallie E. Goldfinch Mathematics Honor Award - $1,000
This newly established award is given in honor of Mrs. Sallie E. Goldfinch, an honor graduate of Conway High School and formerly a Mathematics Instructor at her Alma Mater, Conway High School.
Eligibility requirements include a senior graduating in the spring, be a member of the National Honor Society, demonstrate characteristics exemplified by an honoree-persistence, determination, hard work, and a dedication to excellence, be accepted to a college or university to begin in the fall following graduation, have a GPA of 3.5 or higher on the 4.0 scale (unweighted), and must have taken higher level mathematics courses and/or presently enrolled in Calculus. Applicants must obtain a letter of recommendation from a teacher (not Mrs. Goldfinch), administrator, or guidance counselor.
W.T. Johnson, Jr. Scholarship - $1,000
The W. T. Johnson, Jr. Scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating Conway High School senior who demonstrates exceptional leadership, dedication, and service to their community. The W. T. Johnson, Jr. Scholarship was established to recognize a Conway High School senior, who resides within Bucksport Water System’s service territory, and intends to continue their education at either a technical or four-year college. This scholarship is granted by Bucksport Water System, Inc. to honor Mr. W. T. Johnson, Jr.’s unwavering commitment and service to its company, employees and members for over 53 years.
Mary Ann Long Stalvey Memorial Scholarship - $250
This scholarship, established in memory of Mary Ann Long Stalvey, retired teacher of Conway High School, is a $250 award given annually to a graduating senior who plans to attend Horry Georgetown Technical College. The recipient will be chosen by the scholarship committee of Conway High School.
Charles Watson Scholarship - $500
This scholarship was established in the memory of Mr. Charles Watson and is awarded to a student planning to attend Coastal Carolina University. The scholarship is for $500. The applicant must demonstrate financial need, must have a 2.0 GPA and must attend Conway High School.
Waccamaw Sertoma Club Scholarship - $500
This scholarship is funded by a civic organization and is awarded to a student planning to attend college who possesses hearing and/or speech needs or plans to enter a hearing/speech related field. Awards and requirements are subject to change each year.
